RV Transport and Horizon Transport in Wakarusa, Indiana

If you're considering transporting RV's for a living please read the following;

First of all it is and should be enjoyable but here's the downside. Horizon Transport is still paying the same fee to their contractors that they were paying them when diesel was $1.50 per gallon. Now their contractors are paying twice as much for diesel but receiving the same compensation meaning there is really no profit and most concerning of all no ability to set aside anything for vehicle mainenance such as tires, oil changes, etc. What you'll end up with is a very high mileage vehicle that isn't worth anywhere near what you still owe on it and possible wind up broken down far from home while the company simply sends someone else to get your RV leaving you stranded with repairs you cannot afford.

Although Horizon is getting in some cases as much as a 30% fuel surcharge from the RV manufacturers they do not pass it along to their contractors instead pocketing this as company profit. Not fair at all considering the contractor has insurance, fuel, maintenance and on the road expenses to deal with. Horizon reaps all the benefits while the contractor pays all the expenses.

Of further concern should be during slow periods they may have as many as two dozen trucks parked at their terminal waiting for freight while.......get this......STILL RECRUITING NEW DRIVERS!!

Horizon has a system set up that rewards the equivalent of kindergarten gold stars in the form of TAC points which is supposed to reward driver with higher fees and first choice at load selections. Too often when freight is at minimum levels they fail to put their load boards in TAC mode leaving the drivers who have earned the right to select first very frustrated. Drivers should also get preference who are actually parked at the terminal but that doesn't happen as any driver lounging around at home can book a load then drive hours to pick it up.

I'm sure this company is laughing all the way to the bank while their contractors are going broke.

Just remember if their paying $1.10 per mile to get a load somewhere you'll actually only be earning $.55 per mile by the time you come back empty. IT's time for Horizon and others to learn what a drivers walk out can do to their business.

Unless you have a good source of outside income do NOT DO THIS FOR A LIVING!!

Thank you for reading this and best of luck to you in whatever you pursue.
